Open House!

The Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission celebrated its new location in The Prosperity Center at 520 E Street in Eureka, with an open house on Tuesday, October 20th.

“The Redwood Region Economic Development Commission is pleased to have the Film Commission in the Prosperity Center,” said RREDC’s Executive Director Gregg Foster. “The opportunities for dynamic, regional economic development partnerships among the organizations who network in this building have increased with their arrival.”

The Humboldt Del-Norte Film Commission is an important economic development partner. In the most recent Quarter starting July 1st, ten film productions in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties brought in an estimated $925,525 in direct spending. The Kirsten Dunst film “Woodshock” – which was shot entirely in our region over a period of 28 days – brought in $804,225 of that. The total financial impact on our region (including direct spending; the cast and crew’s spending outside of the production; and the circulation of the money before it leaves the county) is estimated at $2,730,300 for the first quarter of this fiscal year.

October marks the five-year anniversary of Cassandra Hesseltine’s tenure as Film Commissioner with the Humboldt Del-Norte Film Commission. “We are honored that the film commission is seen as part of the larger economic development picture in the region and we are excited to work amongst such amazing organizations,” Hesseltine stated.

RREDC is a collaboration of Humboldt County communities dedicated to expanding economic opportunity in Humboldt County. Founded in 1977 and governed by a Board of Directors of elected officials from throughout Humboldt County, RREDC’s mission is to expand the capital available to local businesses and organizations and provide leadership in regional economic development.

The Film Commission joins RREDC and the County of Humboldt’s Economic Development Division, the North Coast Small Business Resource Center, Workforce Development Board and the Humboldt Business Challenge, in the Prosperity Center building on E Street between Fifth and Sixth in Eureka.
